Achievements were added into Cogmind in the Beta 6 update "Achievements Unlocked". They are organized into 6 different categories based on the requirements. At the current time there are 256 unique achievements to attain. Hidden achievements are followed with ??? instead of an description/hint on how to get them.

Achievements were added to, according to This blog post:

  • Record progress and skill milestones
  • Recognize special accomplishments
  • Create unique meta challenges
  • Teach players about the world or mechanics
  • Hint at some things possible in the game
  • Suggest alternative play styles

Mechanics

As the name suggests these achievements are focused around the different mechanics found through the game

  • 'Release the Drones' is a likely reference to Mr. Burns saying from "The Simpsons", 'Release the Hounds'
  • 'Armchair Analyst' is a reference to the Armchair Analyst series created by members of the Cogmind Forums
  • 'First Step to Greatness' was originally called 'The Most Popular Achievement' but was changed when 'Uninvited Guest' and 'Crack Shot' both gained a higher percentage of players achieving them.
  • 'The Science Guy' is a reference to Bill Nye and his show, "Bill Nye the Science Guy"
  • 'The One' is a likely reference
  • 'Are We The Baddies?' is likely a reference to a skit from the show, "That Mitchell and Webb Look"
  • 'Inspector Gadget' is referencing the T.V series and movie 'Inspector Gadget' in a similar way to 'Mad Max'
  • 'Look Ma, No Swapping!' is a play on the saying 'Look Ma, No Hands' which is what many people say when they learn to ride their bikes with no hands
  • 'The Little Core That Could' is a play on the book 'The Little Engine That Could'
  • 'Launcher Specialist' was originally called 'Explosive Specialist' but was renamed due to the disambiguate.
  • When achievements were first added achievements relating to robot hacking were changed due to the Beta 7 "Hack the Planet" update.
