>>Query(Mines)

Deep underground areas newly excavated to provide access to raw materials for processing in the lower levels of Complex 0b10. Initially the mining tunnels only rarely experienced hostile derelict activity, not enough to justify allocating significant resources to defense. This has recently changed with the Infestation, for which the current response is to dispatch garrisoned Demolishers until a more permanent solution can be put in place.

The Mines are an early-game branch found in Materials. Exits leading to the Mines usually appear surrounded by Mining Lasers and Medium Matter Storage Units, making them easy to spot at a glance. Mines may appear only at depth -10 and -9.

Layout is generally comprised of farly wide but twisting areas generated by typical celluar automaton algorithms. This makes Grenade Launchers an effective combat item there for the most part. THere are also thin twisting corridors leading to Machine concentrations.

Because of the increased danger of cave-ins, bringing a Mining Claw or failing that, a Mining Laser is recommended. Furthermore a cave-in may happen even in reinforced areas if The Assembled intervene.

The greatest threat in Mines is definitely posed by The Assembled. There is a chance for them to appear as a very large group but when they do a response from Complex 0b10 AI is guarnateed. It comes in a form of C-30 ARC carrying two D-53 Grenadiers. Getting wedged in between the two factions means likely obliteration. However, if the Demolishers perish or you can finish them off it is a good opportunity to obtain Combat Airjets which are rating five propulsion.

Other small boon are a number of Derelict logs to be found lying around.

Possible ensounters

  • The Assembled, as mentioned above.
  • A Derelict advising you on uses of a Mining Laser. If you are not carrying one he will offer you his spare and also accompany you for a while since apparently you must be very stupid to venture there without suitable equipment.
  • A Derelict conducting tests of Signal Emitter. Beware, this will send an assault squad to this place so fleeing the premises of mines is highly recommended. You may take the emitter for your own use.
  • A Derelict telling the tale of a raid on Storage. Its location is added to your world map.
