Operators are a class of hostile robot that loiter around [[Terminal]]s. Upon visual contact with the Cogmind, they flee back to their home Terminal and summon reinforcements while simultaneously locking the Terminal. Upon contact with the Terminal, they switch to non-hostile having completed their life's purpose. If you manage to destroy the Operator before it reaches its Terminal, it drops a unique Data Key which can be brought to the Terminal to give a 1.5x bonus to your first hack.
