Weekly Seed #104 [Beta 3.1] [Seed: MagneticGhostWarhead]
« on: November 30, 2017, 10:44:16 AM »

This week's seed: MagneticGhostWarhead

The Weekly Seed is open to anyone, and we encourage you to share your experiences, stories, and tactics over the course of your run.

The rules are as follows:
  • The Weekly Seed begins from the date this thread is posted and lasts about seven days.
  • Make sure you are running the correct version of Cogmind (see thread subject).
  • Enter the seed and abort your current game to initiate the seed (more details are below).
  • Verify you are not running the tutorial and that the screenshots below match your game.
  • Play through the game once. This is a friendly event and we are all honest people.
  • When finished, post your scoresheet here (it should be the newest file in /scores) and any other screenshots/stories/strategies you wish to share with the community.
  • If you want to share details about the seed or your approach, make sure you use spoiler tags.
  • Due to the spoilerific nature of this thread, be sure to avoid reading details about the seed if you haven't completed your run.
  • As Cogmind now has multiple difficulty modes and challenges which will affect the world generation, by default it is assumed everyone is playing on regular difficulty with no challenges enabled. You are free to use whichever settings you wish, but if you intend on discussing it, be sure to specify what difficulty/challenges you're using!

Good luck and have fun!

run log:
-Took the treads, as most of my successful runs are murdertank style
-On the second floor I stumbled upon a treasure trove of Beam Canons.  What a feast! I equipped two of them and stashed two for the road.
-Hounded by Pests, I made it out with only one beam canon left.  I decided to upgrade my propulsion and utility.
-After traversing the next floor, I was in better shape, sporting three improved AL legs and a collection of Improved light canons and  armor plates
-The stairs led me to an area that looked like the mines, but not quite as rough.  There I met a derelect who told me to follow him to a safer place.
-The derelict led me to a settlement of sorts.  Never had I been to such a place.
-I explored the place, and met another derelict who claimed that he had friends who wanted to help me.  strange......
-he told me a strange code, \\XE4G, though I did not know what this meant.
-Sweet Omnissiah!  I found a stash of weapons open to any who needed them.  they were of the utmost quality.  what a marvelous settlement.
-my canons forgotten, I attached these wonderful weapons and felt that my fortunes had turned for the better.
-after exploring the settlement, which I believed was called "Zion", I was told by a nice robot that a certain doorway let to a very dangerous place.
-Being an unstoppable megatank as I was, this seemed like a great place to go, to clear out the threat for my comrade robots, although they have been treating me strangely.....
-turns out it's locked,  guess I'll go somewhere else.
-I then met a nice robot who offered me a "Storm laser" which sounds like a fantastic weapon.  I look forward to using it in, uh, self defense.
-I decided that I had seen all there was to see in Zion, and after being declared their messiah for some reason, I got bored.
-It was then, wandering the caves, no power source, thjat I stumbled across the bEAST.  it didn't see me, so I decided to wait and try to find an engine before taking him on.
--finding no other way around, I am forced to fight the beast.  wish me luck....
-<TRANSMISSION_ENDS_HERE>

Ok, so this was actually my first time encountering Zion.  exciting stuff!  I never got to install that storm laser, but I really wanted to.

These weekly seeds always make for the best runs.

I went for a combat build and powered through the early game. Factory got a bit rocky but I made it out alive, and to be in a good enough shape to pulverize everything in the first research level. Finding an exit to Armory, I decided to be cocky (never went there before) and tried to power my way through there. I achieved a kill streak of 19, and the run ended shortly after when ARCs kept coming and I didn't have enough firepower anymore to deal with them.

Good stuff!

@WingedOwl: Remember to post your scoresheet (e.g. via spoiler tag) for the run. Beasts in the caves are usually best avoided, since they are really nasty and won't leave you with much there :P. (Even after they've spotted you, and as a slow bot, it's possible to get away--I do it all the time just because it's more dangerous to confront them there.) Reaching Zion for the first time is always neat, and each time you'll find slightly different stuff :)

@ventricule: Wow, nice run! Armory is kinda like a big garrison, but I imagine you kinda knew what to expect before entering--angry bots xD

Aw yeah this seed is awesome. I won this run, despite assuming by the end that I was done for due to... some terrible turns of events. And it was a relatively fast run, too (for me)--a combat run at only three hours. (I streamed the entire thing, and with this have also started archiving my so they actually stick around. A lot of my epic runs have been lost to time :P)

I started on legs, then moved to treads, then to hover, then eventually back to treads. My mid-game treads were crappy and ailing, so I couldn't resist this great stockpile of Com. Airjets which carried me for a while. Energy was tight, but it worked out.

I really played much of the game as a stealth-combat hybrid, though didn't shy away from any fights that had already started.

I ended up doing a straight shot towards the surface, taking only one branch towards the end of the run, so I knew I was heading into tough times since I didn't have any help, but things worked out okay in the end.

Spoiler: Late-game stuff (click to show/hide)

The last floor was pretty lucky--I found a Cycler (two, actually!) and took it out not long before turning some corners and finding the exit nearby. I was kinda surprised it was so close, and didn't quite recognize it at first because the door was gone :P

Spoiler: Score: 31,720 (click to show/hide)

While Kyz had an epic run (good job!!), I perished quicker than I have in quite a while, in -9 Storage  ::)

For this run, I decided to go oldschool and play in ascii and keyboard mode. I think with some practice it could be really efficient, but it'll take a few runs before I'm truly comfortable.

Mats went fine, and even Storage when fine, I felt pretty unstoppable blasting through defenders left and right. At some point I picked up a Precision Rocket Launcher that was DOPE (I don't think I'm 'hip' enough to use that word). Anyway, in Storage, I found the Mats exit, but decided to do a bit more exploring and found a couple terminals. Hacking the terminals revealed the location of a branch...

-9?! Well, Storage can be a dangerous place, and too bad you didn't have the password. I thought you might've learned that one by now... (there are a couple ways to get it)
