Part damage after repair failure
« on: November 05, 2015, 06:39:55 PM »

Greetings,

I've noticed a few times that after a part apparently gets damaged in a repair job, that it appears to still function. The attached screens show immediately after getting the damage message.

Even though damaged, the core still gives energy supply.

The core does show red only after detaching and re-attaching the core.

The only thing that appears to demonstrate the core being broken is that the overall status menu ("S" accessible) shows the same supply and recharge whether or not the damaged core is on or off.  But the supply gauge in the main playing window does show more supply with the damaged core on.

Bug? Or am I missing something?  At the very least,  it seems the damaged core should immediately turn red.

Thanks for the report, and the very helpful images here!

There was a problem with this reported in the previous build, with parts only being partially disabled in this process, and I found an issue in the code and fixed it for Alpha 4, but apparently that wasn't enough to cover all situations. I'll get this sorted for next time!

For now, consider it a lucky bonus :)

Well, maybe anyway. Are you sure it's still giving you power?* From the time the message says disabled through to when you detach and reattach it, there is no difference in power output on your HUD, in which case it seems to be working properly internally, as I expect it should be given the previous fix, it's just not updating your PARTS view to reflect the fact that it's disabled. (*You don't have to actually answer this or explore it further--I'll get to the bottom of this--just pointing out that this appears to be the most likely case.)

Finally fixed this one for good. It was rather complicated because it was a combination of two separate things contributing to this bug! The UI not updating despite internal changes due to the power source being broken made it harder to figure out.

Thanks again!
