So who has the bigger gun? LOL! Let's better stop it now. Hahaha.

EDIT:
paste from google:

Ahh I love my new attribution!

Wow, thanks for featuring my art, that's awesome! :D

QuoteAnd your artwork is way bigger than Cogmind's.
There is something special about 18x18 versions of guns and etc., artwork is simple, but at the same time it's complex with all the small details in it. This complexity done from simplicity amazes me.

A bit of a game developer by myself, actually. Was making a simple roguelike in a Windows console on C#, but lost all of the source code.
Had a lot of projects in C# and Java, but now I have to focus on education.

And here is three sub-space recievers I doodled today, so this post won't be offtopic

(My english is probably awful as hell, hope it's at least readable :( )
EDIT: Oh, and we still have snow (It says "summer").

Hehe, it's one of the forms of "life" in Cogmind, which I ended up using as ranks here on the forums :)

Ooh, too bad you lost it--looks like you had gotten quite a lot done there!

Those receivers looks great, too! You've really got the spirit of the style down :D

Snow? Heh, we're burning up here in the subtropics. Your English is fine--my Russian can't compare :P (it's nonexistent) Come to think of it, "Subspace Receiver" could be a pretty cool name I haven't used yet for a machine... maybe I'll add that to the game.

It's me again, made a mockup of a gadget for my game tutorial.
Statistical player can't remember 5-keys controls, so I need a way to force him to use it for a while until real game-play begins.
Player needs to pass a 'safety check list' :)

Kyzrati

Oh man this thing is awesome--too bad the gallery doesn't do gifs :P

Great job on that spiral binder, definitely going to show this around!

Yea, thank you very much, twitter app on my mobile started to beep in the middle of the night.

I was just putting In random 1s and 0s, I wonder what I would get if I translated it.

...I hope you don't mind endlessblaze, I've decided to play with your picture a little bit

I love what you have done with it. I guess I should make something now......

Wow! That is great animation! Kudos for that.

It's bit oldish muckup made by hand in RP, frame by frame :),
Now, flipping pages are changed to look more like bending rather than rotating.

I'm glad you liked the old one, and I hope the new one as well, thanks!

Kyzrati

The new one is animating so fast there it's hard to compare the details, but it definitely looks good. The older version was pretty cool how it looked more 3D-ish, rather than a rolling page flip (and actually looked more "ASCII" for it).

The main reason for dropping initial attempt was that cover rotation over empty background was usually perceived by my eyes in opposite direction as it should be - result of no shadow and no-perspective projection. (my eyes issue only? :P). Other than that, proceduraly stretched ascii didn't look pretty especially on white pages (noisy columns).

Here's the slowmo for comparision with first mockup.

EDIT: thanks to slowmo, found a bug, bending edge is incorrectly painted over cutouts (at the very beginning of right to left page flip animation).

Kyzrati

Ah, much better for comparison. Yeah, looks good, though for me the directionality of the original wasn't an issue.

Yeah! Although first had feeling of hard cover, the second one is better. :)

gumix

@dagondev
Yea, I'm still considering hard covers but soft pages, but first I need to figure out how to convince my I eyes to see cover flipping on top instead of below the background :P

Mreuwu

If you want cover flipping up, around the middle of the cover sweep, use half-blocks to enlarge the cover size at the top and bottom.

gumix

@Mreuwu I can use only characters 0x20 - 0x7f (radical 7-bit ASCII), but yea - adding perspective should work here.

off-topic: I just realized where I would be with my game w/o RP, check it out:

CHANGE 'color mode' option to black & white :)

Kyzrati

Wow, that's a lot of black and white--neat but nowhere near the same quality; it's harder to have such a high density of information without the aid of color. AP's certainly come a long way in the short time since you found us :)

Today it was the first time for me too to switch this mode interactively, I was kinda shocked, hehe.

Today I was struggling in RP with on-map mini version of AP's car, to show user's progress on that map.
Once the car was finished (6x3 cells), I couldn't stop, I have had to see if whole game could be done in such a nano scale. Here's the result (50x15), I kinda like it!

EDIT: and the actual way the nano-car is going to be used:

Kyzrati

Hehe, "nano patrol" :)

It does look pretty good! I think small-scale ASCII generally has a good look to it. 1.2E-9 score doesn't seem so great, though ;)
Josh Ge, Developer - Dev Blog | @GridSageGames | Patreon

gumix

Agree, in small scale ascii, the importance of characters' shapes (font) increase dramatically. :)

gumix

I didn't send a postcard for a long time, so posting an ascii-card here :)

Kyzrati

Hehe, a postcard from your recent vacation from gamedevland?

Creative as usual! Nice to see some more art--felt like something's been missing around here lately :P
