As mentioned in the latest SITREP, I went to the
Roguelike Celebration this year and gave a talk on How to Make a Roguelike:
It came out pretty well and serves as a general guide for getting into development, covering a wide range of topics including language, scope, core mechanics, 7DRLs, resources, hooks, and general tips.
In addition I've now published
that same talk in written form, so that if you're interested in starting your own roguelike project and prefer getting your info via text and images rather than listen to the whole 27 minutes, you can now do that
. It's pretty similar to the video version.
