Steam controller completely disabled
« on: July 19, 2018, 06:49:26 PM »

It is the first game with which I experience this problem. I am unable to use the Steam Controller with it (I would like to use it as a mouse) it is completely disabled. I would love to be able to play the game while standing since I have back problems and cannot stay seated for extended periods of time. Could you please look into that I would be very grateful!

Unfortunately it's not possible to use the Steam Controller because Cogmind doesn't support the Steam Overlay, which is required for the controller to operate. The Steam Overlay requires that a game hook into the video card, but unlike most games Cogmind uses software mode. This is the main reason it works so well in Wine (no video drivers to worry about), but there are apparently drawbacks, too...

Sorry for the inconvenience!

(Note this is the same reason OBS can't record Cogmind directly, either--it requires desktop recording. Lots of third-party software works by intercepting the game in the video card and inserting additional components before its shown on the screen, but Cogmind's appearance is controlled by the OS instead. This is also why it doesn't matter how old or crappy your video card is, Cogmind runs all the same and its FPS is instead entirely dependent on your CPU!)

Interesting. That explains why I was having problems earlier with OBS producing a black screen.

Yeah it's come up a few times on Discord, whenever we get new streamers (there are quite a few now!).

This info is on the website, but of course not everyone's going to see that bit :P
