I just found an exploit in the current build that will be fixed for Alpha 2, but you could mess around with it now if so inclined:

If you meet Revision 17 in the starting area (he always shows up in tutorial mode, but only sometimes in quickstart mode), during his dialogue you can quit the game by closing the window, which cuts his dialogue short and autosaves, but doesn't make him disappear as usual. He's unarmed but carries fairly advanced gear, so you could then load up the game and steal his stuff!

But that would be mean ;)

Why would you tell us this :(

Kyzrati

Why not?! No one would figure it out on their own--I learned it from the way I was testing something--and it's going to disappear in the next version.

Or do you say this because now you feel compelled to try it :P

Not like it falls into the realm of spoilers, or something that you even should or have to do to win. It's just a low-hanging fruity way to fool around. endlessblaze likes it ;)

i had to start scum several times due to impatice. but it was amusing.

also, how do we start up that testing mode, I seem to recall you mentioning it some were but I cant find were.

Kyzrati

Hm, I thought there was an option for that, but the option is only for toggling/resetting the tutorial messages.

To get the actual tutorial area you would have to delete your /user/game.bin file. (Ideally you'd save a copy of that elsewhere, or rename the original, in order to restore it when done fooling around in order to keep your meta stats like discovered part totals.)

Of course, note that this exploit no longer works as of Alpha 2 ;)

I should probably make the tutorial message toggle also reset the tutorial area as well.

im talking about the testing/debug mode.

I think you mentioned it somewhere on the blog.

it had all the weapons and robots standing around doing nothing

but yes, the tutorial option sounds nice

Kyzrati

Oh you mean the actual testing mode? That's right, I've mentioned that on the blog before... You can't access that in the release builds; I took it out because I don't want people poking around in there spoiling things. For now at least.
