Alright, I'm following everyone on twitch now. That's too bad about replays, but I understand. I was wondering about the RNG and whether hacks and hit/miss calcs were done ad hoc or based on the seed. What if the random outcome of each event was logged in addition to the player's moves? Would that present a similarly insurmountable problem?

About replays: would it be possible via rebuilding the world seed and playing back the same sequence of player turns? It would certainly help my own gameplay to be able to watch some of the more accomplished players' runs!

Why didn't you just adjust the keys?
I did, and it's sort of workable for the most part, but it felt like an afterthought. The way that various windows pop up and close, and just general feel of menu navigation gave me the impression that the game is clearly intended to be played with a mouse. I know this is a minor detail to most users, and ToME is generally well regarded, but my OCD/ADHD tendencies often inflate small nitpicks into bigger distractions and frustrations over time.

I played for a little while, went out to dinner and had a few drinks, came back and watched a tv show, and then continued my game (and promptly died). I assume that has something to do with it being a 380 minute game :P

Yeah my playstyle so far has been mostly trying to obtain fast propulsion parts and jump from map to map in as few turns as possible, outrunning my enemies. I've had a few games where this strategy went (in my opinion) quite well, but during this run I was never really able to build a good loadout. Consequently, I spent a lot of time running on core speed, desperate to find a cache of useful parts before I ran out of integrity  ;D

Hehe, so you're one of the players helping push up the hjkl numbers in our stat summary!
I love Vim, so I reeeeally prefer HJKL to arrows/numpad. So much so that it pretty much kept me from enjoying ToME.

And now back to working on some secret new ASCII stuff for Cogmind... :)

Hi all,
I'm pretty awful at this game (and roguelikes in general), but "losing is fun" and all that, so I can't stay away!

How did you learn about Cogmind?
It climbed to the top of /r/roguelikes, and I saw it there. I typically avoid early access, so I was planning to just follow it and wait for release. However, the high level of polish, positive feedback from early adopters, and high level of engagement from Kyzrati convinced me to pick it up from the GSG website.

What other roguelikes do you enjoy?
DCSS and Dungeons of Dredmor.

What are your other favorite games?
Aside from Cogmind, I mostly play the Monster Hunter and Dark Souls games, but also dabble in the (too) many games in my Steam library.

What do you do for fun when you're not playing games?
I like to read fantasy and sci-fi novels, and non-fiction science books. I also love skiing. Honestly though, these days most of my time is spent studying biology and programming.  :-\

Thanks for the followup. To be clear, I love the look of the game and very much enjoy flipping between ascii and graphical modes in the middle of gameplay! This was just a thought I had during my first few games when I was struggling to remember which enemy type had what equipment loadout. If modding is accessible in the final version of the game, it would be neat to see what the community creates.
