This week's seed: ProtonSmartbombBlaster



The Weekly Seed is open to anyone, and we encourage you to share your experiences, stories, and tactics over the course of your run.

The rules are as follows:
  • The Weekly Seed begins from the date this thread is posted and lasts about seven days.
  • Make sure you are running the correct version of Cogmind (see thread subject).
  • Enter the seed and abort your current game to initiate the seed (more details are below).
  • Verify you are not running the tutorial and that the screenshots below match your game.
  • Play through the game once. This is a friendly event and we are all honest people.
  • When finished, post your scoresheet here (it should be the newest file in /scores) and any other screenshots/stories/strategies you wish to share with the community.
  • If you want to share details about the seed or your approach, make sure you use spoiler tags.
  • Due to the spoilerific nature of this thread, be sure to avoid reading details about the seed if you haven't completed your run.
  • As Cogmind now has multiple difficulty modes and challenges which will affect the world generation, by default it is assumed everyone is playing on regular difficulty with no challenges enabled. You are free to use whichever settings you wish, but if you intend on discussing it, be sure to specify what difficulty/challenges you're using!

Select GAME, select ABORT:

Tried to have an easy fast win, so I avoided most branches (except waste and testing), but was too careless and lost everything in access.

Pretty sad about this death :( I ended up in a long deadend corridor shortly after entering -1 and then two Hunters followed me down it. I tried to juke them around the entrance to the room I was in and run, but I failed to notice the shield generator I had equipped for some damage reduction as I ran put me over the weight limit so I was moving at ~80 instead of ~30. By the time I realized, I'd taken a few hits and lost my Terrain Scanner and a flight unit and everything fell apart pretty quickly after that. Scariest part was -8 though. I swear I encountered over 50 enemies before I'd even explored a quarter of the map. That section of the map was a gauntlet with only a single path leading to the rest of the level. I was seriously shocked at the enemy density :o

Somehow I got way better at this game overnight haha. For the longest time I'd struggle to make it past -4, but since Beta 1.2 I can pretty consistently get to -1 except those runs where you have terrible luck in materials/caves and get destroyed by Swarmers lol. Probably comes down to me always ditching the combat style I wanna play as soon as I find a stash of flight or hover units in Factory :p

EDIT: Oh yeah had a stressful moment in -4 as well. I was making haste towards the exit that I'd already discovered through data intel, taking the shortest path by chopping through all the walls with a Spear... unfortunately I wasn't paying close attention and ended up oneshotting a Nuclear Reactor that I thought was just useless machine in the way. Miraculously I only lost two hover units and suffered minimal damage to utilities... and found a better hover unit in the next room :)

That section of the map was a gauntlet with only a single path leading to the rest of the level. I was seriously shocked at the enemy density :o
Yeah when you notice those you should panic (:P) and get out fast and/or try to dig a short tunnel from a room which may lead to a way around.

Somehow I got way better at this game overnight haha.
Seems that it's all started to click once you go that first win :)

This was a really frustrating run for me. Right off the bat, I put myself into propulsion problems. At one point, I had a leg, a hover, and a flight unit and that was it. Finally, I stumbled upon a stash of sweet, sweet cooled flight units! Flying around like I owned the place, I put myself in a room surrounded by enemies. I bashed a wall to escape...right into a group of baddies. As I started to fight...cave in. I had trouble recovering from there. Hopefully I'll do better next time!
