This week's seed: Recycling Vacation


The Weekly Seed is open to anyone. High scores are not the only feature of the runs and the main reason for putting this together is to share our experiences, stories, and tactics over the course of your run.

Rules are as follows:

  • The Weekly Seed begins from the date this thread is posted and lasts about seven days.
  • Make sure you are running the correct version of Cogmind (see thread subject).
  • Enter the seed and abort your current game to initiate the seed (more details are below).
  • Verify you are not running the tutorial and that the screenshot below of the Scrapyard and Level -10 matches your seed
  • Play through the game once. This is a friendly competition and we are all honest people.
  • When finished post your scoresheet here (it should be the newest file in /scores) and any other screenshots/stories/strategies you wish to share with the community.
  • Due to the spoilerific nature of this thread do not read the comments if you are intending to participate and haven't played your run!
  • Any scoresheets submitted after seven days will not be included.
  • Good luck!

first i want to say that the change of the weapon-time-costs are great.
also the a...all together it's more fun to play without going to be easy.


Weekly Seed #Recycling Vacation
...and suddenly Cogmind stands right in front of an Extension-Access-Point. And of course i went in to explore. first a transfer-station, were some u's and r's jump out...and also no enemies, whats goin' on in here ?? than a terminal, a hack for branch-access-point. now i know that we got only ONE of that. one access (labeled Cetus). i look on the map and see the this access-point is miles away from me...so let's go.
but after some doors a heavy beast stands in front of me. i duck back and decide to go another route the exit. a new terminal comes in view, but this one controls only a door. so we hack it and the door's open. and now i begin to notice that the Extension-Branch must be a kind of jail or something, cause i free a T5-YGP(g) and he was very happy and welcomes me with the word "Free at last". ...who knows how long he was arrested in this 1x1chamber. ...he comes with me but we found no other route to the exit and have to pass the beast. but than a second beast plus an carrier wich drops its load. two hunters. after a heavy lost of my parts i decide to run...but without any coverage you are aloud to run round about three moves.

These are the highlights of my brief run. I've been away from the game and I'm still unskilled, so predictable result. But I do keep coming back. :)

That initial explosion set the tone, I think. But maybe my biggest mistake was trying to destroy the garrison, especially before I really had the other hostiles off me and had a chance to recover. They just kept pouring out. :D Working as intended!

Edit: Okay, I accidentally ended up starting the same seed again and decided to go with it. This shocked me - this is the turn after the single first volley I fired in this run:

The stream went quite well, though I ended up dying to some tactical mistakes in the opening area of -3. (But I still gave them hell for it :P)

Ended up with 9 weapon slots in all. Very deadly.

Things would have gone completely differently if either 1) I hadn't underestimated the first squad of Swarmers I faced out in the open, 2) I had a launcher of some kind, or 3) they hadn't had a second garrison backing them up not far away.

The entire run was recorded here, and we visited some of the areas new in Alpha 5. (I put that segment in the highlights, too.) New areas = spoilers, of course.

Happylisk

On my phone so no log.  Got to -4 with an abnormally low score for that depth of 5k.  I found the exits on -7, -6, -5 in no time.  On the bright side this meant low security level on -4.  On the downside I was under geared.

I was using 5 weapons by the end.  Very fun and a noticeable power boost but it didn't feel overpowered.  Death came when I got caught in the open by a swarmer squad, a grunt squad with a rogue, a programmer dispatch, and all of this near a garrison so more bots kept joining the party.  Fighting in the open = death.  I really hope blinking/teleporting a la crawl becomes a (costly) option in the future.

I reached Cetus, cleared it and read the records (!). Then I entered a garrison on -4 I think and cleared a fair bit of it before leaving. I couldn't find the stairs on -3 so I died, but I took a lot of dudes with me. I took a lot of screenshots but they'll be staying on my hdd. It was mostly to document the run.

Next seed is coming tomorrow. Slightly delayed because this game in progress needed to be finished. This was my highest scoring game since the tournament.

I took a leaf out of Decker's book and went pretty heavy on propulsion for armour. It worked pretty well.

Halfway through -3 I ran into a dead end (locked exit). I was still in good shape at the time so if this happened in the future with that branch I might've been able to extend this a lot further!

The fact that I watched some of Kyzrati's run didn't seem to have an impact. I completely forgot about it until I got ambushed by swarmers at the start of -4 (I think). Fortunately I had a launcher! I entered into that garrison that K was trying to get in (the upper one).

I see you stayed in the Cetus for a good while, even presumably into the security sweep. On your way out you did you have that other NPC encounter I mentioned in the stream? Still have to look into why it didn't trigger in my own run...

Research was tough. So many arcs!

On Cetus:

I kept fighting new groups of enemies on Cetus. Heaps of them. The Cetus Guards are really tough also. I dug a path in the walls to create a chokepoint to deal with them, but cannons eventually blasted away the chokepoint. I think it's a good tactic but I need to be cognisant of which weapons I have dig out walls. I encountered an NPC and went back and stayed until I could unlock the door to the mainframe. I couldn't figure out if there was anything I could do with the mainframe so I decided to destroy it! Nothing seemed to occur.

As you've seen you can't hang around in the Cetus for too long before it starts to get dangerous. Good that you just barely made it out in time :P

The mainframe might take longer for someone to figure out, probably by luck. Don't worry about it for now anyway, since you can't use the benefit it gives you just yet.

No, I won't. What I've been doing is locking threads for old versions only after a new version is out. I always keep all current-version threads open in case someone wants to come in later. (5c is essentially the same thing as 5b, and seeds are even compatible, so no change here.)
