Maiker is remote rewiring Specialists by holding down the 'F' key. A random Watcher wanders in, immediately gets datajacked, amplify_resonance'd, and explodes with his buddy, all in a split second.

Lol I got this game a week ago and this frustratingly funny thing happened to me.
Event and area spolier warning for someone even newer than me?
So I met this friendly bot with a rating in the 200s in the caves and I'm happy that with it's help I'll maybe finally get past factory, but I find out that it doesn't wait for me. As I desperately try to catch up I fall into a chute trap, get all of my parts crushed, escape and reemerge back in factory with nothing on me and the bot nowhere to be seen of course. I died shortly after but beacuse I haven't been to Waste before I wasn't even mad.

Ouch yeah rushing to stick with an NPC (or really for any purpose unless on a fast build) can be dangerous for a number of reasons, but if you can manage that one's really really good. I'm sure you'll meet again some day :). Waste is definitely a tougher area if unfamiliar with what's down there!

There was a particularly annoying -8/Materials Heavy i was trying to avoid.
Its range covered the lower path (unless i wanted to try an extreme dig), so i tried to go around and above.
But no, the Heavy sensing area covered all possible paths above as well. The upper path was worse than the lower one.

So i went back down. The most convenient path through the Heavy's area of influence was barely inside the lower part of the its field of view.
I ended up breaking the walls directly below the Heavy's sight range, to barely graze the edge of its view.
This of course directly funnels me into a squad of hostiles, but that's not important.

After all that, i get close enough to a Tunneler for it to begin digging out a new room...
One very big room, big enough to directly neighbor a room on the side of the Heavy's range i started on.

Turns out the "extreme dig" would've been an breezy two-tile dig.
