In-game clock

How about an in-game clock. It's way too easy to lose track of the time while playing this game.

Along these same lines, a run-timer would be kinda neat to have too.

Heh, got sucked in, eh? :P

I could look into adding these as optional features, sure.

I have also wanted a clock at times, but figured it was less important than other features.

Kyzrati

Well if helpful I'm always up for adding QoL features, especially stuff like this which is really easy to add, just throwing some numbers up on the HUD (plus a toggle in the config, but that is easily extensible).

I always wanted this too, but I was afraid to ask because it felt like it might go against immersion. Glad you seem willing to add it as an option, though.

It wouldn't be that immersion breaking if you put it in the Game Menu, unless you want it out in the main HUD. But even then, it's probably not too bad because Cogmind's a robot, after all. Why wouldn't it be able to tell time? :D

Oh, Cogmind's already great at telling time... since it booted up. :P

More seriously, I'm happy to have that option available for those who want it, though I lean towards defaulting it off (or in the menu) so that new players are plunged into the total immersion experience with no real-world distractions at least once.

Kyzrati

Yes for immersion reasons this would never be on by default, and it would only be really useful to most players if it appeared on the main HUD without having to open other menus to access.

For myself I always just have a clock under my monitor, since regardless of what I'm doing on my computer glancing down real quick is the easiest way to tell the time :)

I have to move around much more with my computer use, so I prefer a good watch and alarms when I don't want to spend too long in something.  If I'm playing Cogmind, generally I want to be sucked in so hard that stopping a session feels like I've just started to breathe again. :)

Whew it's finally here--Beta 8 is coming with both a clock and a run timer, each a separate option (and both off by default):
