This week's seed: Commander Cogmind

They look up to you.

The Weekly Seed is open to anyone, and we encourage you to share your experiences, stories, and tactics over the course of your run.

The rules are as follows:
  • The Weekly Seed begins from the date this thread is posted and lasts about seven days.
  • Make sure you are running the correct version of Cogmind (see thread subject).
  • Enter the seed and abort your current game to initiate the seed (more details are below).
  • Verify you are not running the tutorial and that the screenshots below match your game.
  • Play through the game once. This is a friendly event and we are all honest people.
  • When finished, post your scoresheet here (it should be the newest file in /scores) and any other screenshots/stories/strategies you wish to share with the community.
  • If you want to share details about the seed or your approach, make sure you use spoiler tags.
  • Due to the spoilerific nature of this thread, be sure to avoid reading details about the seed if you haven't completed your run.

Press F1 to go to the MENU, select OPTIONS, select Seed, and enter this week's seed:




Select GAME, select ABORT:




If you have followed the steps [Manual seed applied: Commander Cogmind] should display in the log window.

I was speed running unarmed for the whole time. Not a single shot fired. Got to -2/Testing where I've got stuck in some stasis bubble, surrounded and exterminated. Argh.

Wow, you got far though!

Stasis must have been from the researcher. You can break free more easily by activating your legs/treads in that scenario.

Thanks for advice. So maybe it wasn't hopeless situation. I didn't activate treads because I was afraid it would slow me down, silly me.

Nooooooo, this was my last Alpha 11 run, and I wanted to get in a win after having lost a couple streamed runs, but, alas, I again perished in Access. So close to winning it, too!

I'd explored about half of the map before getting surrounded and outgunned. My last stand in Access was with a Segregator zapped off an Imp, consuming all the power sources lying around as I blasted pieces off all the Hunters who'd found me :P. I did make a few dumb mistakes in Access, so it definitely could've gone better...

My run was spread over several days so I don't really remember the whole thing, but there were a number of close calls and rebuilds, each time coming back deadlier than the last. I stuck with thermal for most of the game (man I would've been much more powerful in the upcoming Alpha 12!), but also mixed in EM a lot, too, which was fun.

Towards the end I probably weakened myself a bit too much by using two utility slots for some nice terrain scanning ability, in the interest of finding the final exit as I zig-zagged across the map. I had no armor and was relying on super accurate targeting to take out everyone before they could hit me, but that's a slightly risky way to play! I also debated switching from combat to hover once the alert started to rise too high (I was at 5 for quite a while). I had the parts, and in hindsight that would've been the way to go since I also had the scanning and probably could've located the exit pretty quickly.

A good run overall, though! And at least I broke 20k and surpassed my earlier Alpha 11 high score.

Other interesting notes from the run:
-I completely trashed a garrison early on for the heck of it, and it even took me to the next floor :)
-I used the same Weapon Cycler for almost the entire run, which really helped out with my weapons-focused build
-I actually started with 5 weapon slots early on--2 on the very first evolution :D

Oh well, off to do Alpha 12 release prep stuff :)

YES. I spent most of the game with 1x Lrg. + 1x Med., but in the late-game came across more Lrg. units and since I was already using two slots anyway (and was running extra heavy with all those legs!) decided to go ahead and replace the Med.

The larger inventory did come in handy specifically one time when I was mostly stripped by the end of one confrontation and had so many spare parts I rebuilt to full capacity immediately after :P. But for the most part I was wasting inventory space on things I didn't really need (except when I had it filled with almost nothing but weapons :D).
