Ideas / Re: Hacking overhaul
« on: December 07, 2015, 03:08:16 AM »
I think that would be a great idea to make some utilities "fixed" to the core. Where when you get a better version you can either upgrade an old one or take an empty slot.
I would still think they should be susceptible to major damage but more protected than in the utilities slots.

An idea might be to give them a chance to be affected when you receive core damage, maybe after a your core gets lowered to a certain threshold. They would then be double protected  by the general coverage mechanic (same as the core) and then also by the core integrity. Additionally it might give EMP weapons another use target instead of "just" adding corruption.

Two problems I might foresee. It will be important to decide what items would fit into that category. Secondly how they will be lootable from other robots as one of the core design concepts is that all rules that apply  to cogmind should also be reflected in other robots.

Competitions / Re: Weekly Seed #17 [Alpha 4b] [Seed: Brute Force]

I encountered quite a few dense squad clusters this seed, including some of those Swarmers. Things got pretty crazy, but I never really felt overpowered, even without explosives. The 4b targeting fix has made taking on Swarmers without AoE weapons a lot more feasible :P

That's a pretty decent run, though--looks like you managed to escape a lot of fights considering how far you got.

Now to see what Happylisk manages...

Can he take it to victory?!

Just watched the VOD of the stream. Yeah garrisons seem to be pretty brutal. I entered one as a test one a different run and almost cleared it but didn't pay attention to my core and got killed. Looks like the layout does vary quite a bit. Mine had 2 of the big reactors and barely any stashes. Didn't seem worth it. But now that you said there might be interesting things there I will have to explore more.

Regarding my run. Because I was so matter starved on 2-3 floors I was evading conflicts with a long range scanner. So I was doing a stealth treads run for those floors  ;D

Really harsh start with 3 swarms of 3+ swarmers attacking immediately out of -10. After regaining some items starting working on a combat build. Accidentally went to storage even though I had a scanner that told me what exit it was. Was material starved most of -5 to -4.
Finally made it to level -3 where I got caught in an early fight near a garrison making me loose most of my part reserves. After the next extermination squad came by even my Tiamat launcher couldn't save me anymore and I slowly got chased down by the pesty swarmers that gave me such a hard time already at the very start of the run.

General Discussion / Re: Memory backup modules

No, those don't indicate <stacks> because they truly do not stack. That would be way too powerful. Instead, you can find better and better Cloaking Devices.

Oh wow this explains a lot! Found a stack of 6 Cloaking devices installed/powered 4 and wondered why I was still getting hit  :o

I should read the manual again  ;D

I love the Autoguns!  Just lost a pair I found in my current run, that rate of fire is great but not a lot of damage.

Is that the level with the brown walls?  If it is, make sure to crack open the containers next time you're there. Goodies await you!

I dont remember it. Was a run I did while flying home from Korea really tired so my memories are fuzzy. But I didn't see any containers only either stockpile rooms or empty rooms. With the one exception being the room with the 6+ deactivated Troopers that turned into allies.

I had a Autogun run last time. Found a "Storage level?" where I could activate a personal 6+ trooper army and all around that level there were item depots with items +1-2 levels stronger than then should have been on the floor.
There I found a room with 6 Autoguns and one with 6 Heavy Rocket launchers ... difficult choices were made. But with the autoguns I could mow down masses on enemies. I had difficulties with higher armored enemies though.

Flight for me too. But nothing is more devastating than loosing the third flight module and dropping to crawling speeds due to massive overload penalties.

General & Off-Topic / Re: Introduce Yourself!

Hey Eloden here.

Mostly have been religiously following the updates on /r/rogueikedev as an aspiring roguelikish dev. Loved the aesthetic and theme and was amazed by the UI and animation quality.

Now that it is finally out I can play a bit and more importantly for me support a great pillar of the /r/rogueikedev community. Your posts motivated me to get up and start making my own game  ;D

I usually play rogue-lites and turn based games such as BoI, the freshly released Invisible Inc, Xcom and FTL. Most other RL were either to daunting or inaccessible for me. So I hope that changes with Cogmind!
