Assault Rifle (69%) Hit (terrain) <-- This would suffice.
After all, in many cases a terrain hit would be called a miss. This would also make things clearer when you are aiming past something hoping to catch it in line of fire.
That's an easy enough change for now.
I've also been wanting to experiment with alternative ways to display the calc log, but it's pretty low priority since what we have is at least functional and informative.
The important thing for me (for now) is to be able to see who's hitting what, and it works well enough. The main thing that's unclear sometimes is who or what is taking damage.
You know about the setting in the options menu to increase log detail right? Maybe that will help you a little bit.
Yeah, I have that set to full, but it doesn't tell you whose core you just damaged. If a stray bullet catches a hauler, all you see is that a core got damaged, but not whose.
What about like an on screen display thing that pops up. Like this:
This could work for enemies and players
1) Shoot
2) Watch bullet/energy blast/volley fly towards the location that you targeted or miss completely
3) When it reaches its target a little popup that says "HIT" or "miss" shows up next to the place that you targeted or that the enemy targeted
This would be cool if you were running away you could see right in front of you if you are being hit or not. It's easy to understand and very helpful information wise.
Really the most important information you need to know is whether a core was hit, for which the map already displays what percentage of core integrity the target has left. Adding similar features for other hits would end up with a lot of visual distraction when you're firing large volleys.
You can know if a target was hit (but not on the core--elsewhere) if the projectile stops in their space. I personally never use the Calc window because I can tell what's happening from the map alone, though I'm sure everyone's experiences are different and a good number of players like using Calc.
