What is your favourite weapon family? I am a big fun of spears!

Hm, this is a really tough choice since everything's good for something and has its "amazing representatives" out there, plus it really depends on the situation... I love Slashing since it often saves my butt in a pinch, EM is fun but always seems a bit cheesy and not so exciting... I guess I'll go with kinetic guns because stacking a bunch of them is great fun (especially with the new guaranteed gunslinging), and I can do it right from the start :D

I really like the Kinetic Gun. It just sounds and feels amazing.

Mmm, sound is another aspect of that, yeah, especially the automatic ones. I love firing an array of machine guns (the heavier the better).

I voted to kinetic gun, but recently I'm into the feeling of thermal and EM, which indirectly insta-kill hostiles instead of tearing them. It's so...SciFi-style. (Who said cheesy? :D) While loving 'shooting bullets' feeling of kinetic too, I have a fatal problem: poor matter management. But down-to-earth coolness of 'Gauss' always forces me pick it up. Magnetic acceleration mass weapons, man's dream. After all, weapons in this game are well-balanced, so my favorite changes every time. EM launcher is the only exception. It's not that I dislike it, but haven't yet found how to use properly. I would do test run someday.

True, "favorite" can vary for players over time as you discover new/different weapons, or even specific weapons that might not generally be available. (Of course, some players will build around specifically going after certain special weapons, but then that's probably outside the scope of this thread since it's more about "general categories.")

Interesting you find EM launchers an exception in the way that you do--most players would probably say they're OP :P. Fun to use, for sure, but rather extremely powerful... They do require multiple shots to have a significant effect, though, so they're more often coveted by heavy combat players who attract a lot of attention.

I would have to say the Gauss Cannon. That weapon looks sick when firing at enemies.

Because they're easy to get so you run a bunch of them at once and deplete all your matter? Gauss Rifles are pretty decent, I like them, although if that's the case you know what to do to keep that from happening ;)
